The Smaser Private Shared Cloud.

Innovative. Flexible. Efficient.

The Smaser Private Shared Cloud (SPSC) is based on a hybrid cloud concept. It enables cloud-based private instances (using dedicated hardware) to be combined with public instances (such as AWS, Google or Azure). Roll out and operation of VMs is possible in both private and common public clouds (Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud). The SPSC is therefore the solution to meet the needs of modern and secure IT architectures.

For an environment or platform (“instance”), the following scenarios are possible using the SPSC hybrid cloud concept:

  • Scenario 1: An instance is rolled out and operated on a private or one of the common public clouds (an instance that can run either on a public or private cloud).
  • Scenario 2: An instance is rolled out and operated on a private and a common public cloud (two instances running separately on public and private instances).
  • Scenario 3: An instance is rolled out and operated on a private and a common public cloud (an instance that is shared across private and public clouds).

SMA-SPSC: Private instance

The private cloud instance consists of dedicated hardware operated in a georedundant data centre. The SPSC private instance is provided from an ISO 27001 certified computer centre with an information security management process based on ITIL v3. The environments are operated in accordance with security and data security requirements of the BSI (Federal Office for Information Security). Security personnel are deployed as data protection officers certified as trusted security auditors. In the event of a security crisis, technical personnel are available 7x24h. Deployed personnel are bound to confidentiality by NDAs. All relevant BSI reporting takes place by subscription. The security reports are checked and, when serious, necessary measures are taken to avert any risks, e.g. installing patches, configuring services, etc. There is monthly reporting on the patches installed and measures undertaken.

SMA-SPSC AddOn: Public instance

Modern technologies also enable a hybrid cloud approach, e.g. using public clouds for software defined services or during peak-load times. Applications must however support a hybrid cloud approach. Using a public cloud to outsource entire stages is another scenario. For example, development environments can be outsourced to a public cloud while TEST and PROD stages take place in a private cloud.

SMA-SPSC Service

Smaser is responsible for both management and managed services in private and public clouds via application and service management. A hybrid cloud approach includes the following:

  • Private Cloud
  • Outsourcing and operating virtual machines in a public cloud
  • Public cloud connection (e.g. VPN or private peering)
  • Using software-defined services in a public cloud
  • Application management
  • Service management
  • Cloud security and compliance
  • Cost control / full cost and resource management

A hybrid cloud approach enables cost-effective roll outs using the above modules. The SPSC forms a central cloud cost centre including intelligent resource planning. Which services are to be made available on which cloud is regularly reviewed together with customers (e.g. in a service review).

For integrated application automation and orchestration, the SPSC enables full lifecycle management of applications. It is then possible to automatically create entire virtual machines including middleware and applications and deploy them either on private or public clouds.
An SPSC hybrid also enables continuous integration and delivery. End-to-end viewing of an application is then prioritised. The use of automated lifecycle management from OS to application also ensures that applications, software and OS updates are imported efficiently and, most importantly, are fail-safe.
